National Risk and Vulnerability Assessment

The National Risk and Vulnerability Assessment (NRVA) 2007/8 is a nationally representative multi-purpose survey, covering a variety of development sectors and cross-cutting themes, like poverty and the position of women. The survey was implemented by the Ministry of Rural Rehabilitation and Development and the Central Statistics Organization with financial support of the European Commission.

The NRVA 2007/8 is the most comprehensive source of statistical information about Afghanistan to date and provides important information for development policies and Afghanistan’s Poverty Reduction Strategy, ANDS.

The NRVA results were presented on 28 October 2009, in the presence of His Excellency Mr. Eshan Zia, Minister of Rural Rehabilitation and Development, His Excellency Mr. Abdul Rahman Ghafoori, President General of the Central Statistics Organization and Ambassador Hansjörg Kretschmer, Head of the European Commission Delegation to Afghanistan. Extensive analyses in various development fields are compiled in the downloadable NRVA 2007/8 report and provide a comprehensive profile of Afghanistan. A 22-page summary brochure is also available on the website, as well as series of basic tables on population, the Labour force, agriculture, poverty, education, health and housing.
